in the Times. and the Superstate you do not deny. Do you really want it?

The Editor,
The Times.
Sir,
How long a list would Professor Haseler like of what "is unattractive
or
undesirable about a Superstate" whose construction he at least does
not
deny?
Loss of habeas corpus and jury trial in breach of our Constitution and
Bill
of Rights? Return of double jeopardy after four centuries? A European
Public Prosecutor whose EU-wide remit is determined by QMV, in control not
only of national public prosecutors but armed Europol police having
diplomatic immunity? Extradition without public hearing or prima facie
evidence of any offence, and subsequent imprisonment for indeterminate
periods without trial? (Article 280a, Nice IGC and Corpus Juris)
Political parties permitted or not by the elite, taxpayer funded if
approved, or suspended if they fail to "contribute to forming a
European
awareness"? (Article 191, Nice IGC)
Suspension by QMV of the voting rights (but not the obligations) of
Members
States considered to be in breach of undefined EU principles? (Articles
6.1
and 7, Nice IGC)
No limit whatever on the power of the ECJ?
Criticism of the EU punishable as "blasphemy" without this being
a breach
of the right to free speech? (October Statement by the Advocate General of
the ECJ in the case brought by Bernard Connolly.)
Limitation of human rights "where necessary" and in the
"general
interest" of the EU? (Charter of Fundamental Rights, Article 52, Nice
IGC)
A 5,000 strong EU armed force modeled on French, Italian and Spanish riot
police, "to quell dissent and restore public order", outside EU
borders but
at the stroke of a QMV pen, inside EU and British borders? (Nice IGC)
Destruction of our fishing industry and now our fishing grounds by the CFP?
A farmer suicide every week due to the destruction of British farming by
the CAP?
Exclusion from WTO, G7 and IMF meetings? A collapsing currency? 10%
unemployment? Rule by the unelectable unelected? State salaries for
make-believe jobs and live-in dentists? Proportional Representation and
Party Lists? Buggins turn, Dim Wim and the Welsh Windbag?
Criminal prosecution for selling pounds of fruit and veg. (Thoburn,
Sunderland Magistrates Court) or having a Union Jack instead of the EU
flag
on car number plates? (DVLA, 2001) EU passports and driving licenses with
no national differences?
30,000 Directives crippling British businesses? Squalid and illegal EU
propaganda in schools? Airbrushing of our history into oblivion?
Anti-American, anti Anglo-Saxon ethos and intent? Centralised control of
every aspect of business and life, from working hours to cucumber
curvature, from political thinking to taxation, pensions and fuel duty?
£25bn pa down the drain (IoD analysis)?
The all-knowing, all-seeing ever-present omnipotent state? Is this what
Professor Haseler wants? If not, he would do well to protest before it
becomes a criminal offence to do so..
Yours sincerely,
Idris R. Francis
